Jack Drake (bass, backup vocals)
Nobody knows anything about Jack, he just showed up in the hood (San Mateo) with a bass and started playing. We were like “what tha fuck?!!”, until we realized he wasn’t bad, and didn’t smoke crack, sniff crank, or slam heroin. (The preceding message is not “necessarily” entirely true), but the following is 100% true: Jack got in a near fatal car accident Halloween morning, 2009, in full makeup and costume. He was in the car with his lady friend at the time, and got clipped and knocked through 4 lanes of traffic and then t-boned on Jack’s side. Jack’s head was busted open, and he was rushed to SF General in an ambulance. He was subsequently released, attended a party where he, Pete, and P-Ratt played a set for 4 hours. He then proceeded to leave with his lady friend, and another woman.

although BJack has been on the scene
a lot longer than that.
Interests: Hauling heavy shit, smoking
cigarettes, tuning guitars, soundchecks, chasing fake ass promoters that steal
our money (you know who you are, and so do we, and so does BlackJack), drinking free booze, taking pictures, watching stuff for long periods of time, punching people and giving concussions, and calling Jack “Officer”. Oh yeah, he likes flowers, opera, and some other shit that isn’t true.
Hobbies: Yelling “DRUGS”.

THE HISTORY OF 5 ACRES OF FEAR
(pt. 1)
In February of 2006, Pete and Nate started jamming on some tunes. In the process, Nailee and Modern Ninja were written. The original name of this project was “SageBrush and Sciacca”.
(pt.2)
In the spring of 2006 original bassist Guy Garrison meets Pete and Nate in a jam session, begins playing bass, while Sciacca is on lead guitars and Huggins on synths. Garrison likes the name “5 Acres of Fear” based on a running joke. It sticks. Nate takes on vocal duties. After jamming with several drummers, Nate invites P-Ratt to sit in on drums, and he stays on permanently. Over the course of 3 months, over 15 tracks are written, a vast majority recorded for the initial 5 Acres of Fear CD “More Anguish for Your Pleasure”. In September of 2006, Garrison leaves the group and moves to Seattle, recording some tracks remotely, until ultimately leaving the band in April, 2007. 5 Acres of Fear is in limbo...
(pt.3)
5 Acres of Fear doesn’t talk so much or get along very well, until summer of 2007. Mason Denny (formerly of Clucked, currently of Still Chaos) is tapped by P-Ratt to play bass, and he does so admirably, and 5AoF is reborn. As a guitarist by nature, Denny was a virtuoso, but on Bass he breathes new life into some old songs, and 5AoF is constantly working on new projects. The primary reason for bringing him on board is to book gigs, and this all comes to pass as 5AoF headline the Zombie Prom at Club Hyde in San Francisco in September 2007. In the following months, 5AoF frequently gets together to jam new tunes and prepare for the first round of recordings on their 2nd record...
(pt.4)
5 Acres hits Beast of Baden studios again to record X50, Show Yer Taco (pt.1), and Copraphiliac with Mason Denny on bass duties again. Over the course of the rest of 2007, 5 Acres practices all new material, and gets set for performances in the new Year. In January 2008, 5 Acres plays two bills (The Stork Club and Your House, both in Oakland) with fellow bands Over.08 and Stereo Freakout. Several months later, Mason Denny leaves the band to move to Los Angeles and join another project. Members of 5 Acres of Fear call it quits as a band due to personal differences. Nate aka Mr. SageBrush joins on to play bass and do lead vocals for the band Namahage. The future of 5 Acres of Fear is non-existent...
(pt.5)
Through the rest of 2008, things don’t go so well as Nate does a bit of a stint in a local “holding facility”. After Nate was “released”, he joins on with the band Namahage (with old members of Over.08 plus Dave “The Hamma” ) as bassist and singer. The year ends with 5AoF still not talking or working. Without a bassist, it was a moot point. The 5AoF is essentially no more. In spite of the inactivity, P-Ratt goes into Beast of Baden studio with Willie the Mailman. Mixes are made of new material 5AoF recorded with Mason Denny on bass as well as some guitars.
(pt.6)
In March, 2009, Jack Drake, and old friend of Nate and Pete, comes back from a 6 year stint in the Army. He is done with his tour of duty, having served time in Iraq and then South Korea. Upon his return, Nate’s brother (we’ll call him Jeffro), knowing that Jack played bass, suggests that he should sit in with 5AoF. At that time, 5AoF is inactive, and Nate is unmoved by the idea of getting back together. In spite of this, Nate agrees to jam at “The Ratthole” in San Mateo. Everything clicks. The energy was undeniable. By this time, Pete and Nate had made peace. Nate was back onboard. In May of 2009, Nate is dropped from Namahage, and is back with 5AoF full time. In October of 2009, 5 Acres plays the Rockit Room in Frisco. They immediately go on hiatus until 2010.
(pt.7)
In February of 2010, after an internal squabble, Nivek aka P-Ratt leaves the group to pursue other interests. The days of jamming and recording at the Ratthole are no more. Immediately Nate puts out an open invite for a new drummer, and Demitri Stewart, his old band mate from Over.08/Namahage applies for the position. He is hired as the new drummer of 5 Acres of Fear...
